About Absolute Self Storage
My name is Chris Torres, owner and builder of Absolute Self Storage. This is a small facility by industry standards, which means I know most of my tenants personally. Many have become friends over the years, and that personal connection is something I value deeply.
Let me tell you how this place came to be.
I was an electrician as a young man. Back in the late 1990s during the banking crisis, times were tough and work was slow. One of the jobs I was wiring was an old mill in Manchester, NH being converted to self-storage. As I worked on that project, I started thinking about my family’s future and what kind of business could provide long-term stability.
That’s when the idea first took root: what if I could build something like this myself?
Shortly after, I received a small inheritance from my father who had just passed. I had a decision to make: take a vacation with the family or invest it in our future? I decided to invest. The vision for a storage facility seemed like a solid idea, so I started searching for a building.
One of my real estate customers had bought a portfolio from a bank, and there it was: a run-down building in Milford, NH on Route 101. It was an old apple storage warehouse with unbelievable insulation, which meant lower utility costs. People said I was crazy to take on such a project, but I believed in it. I told myself, “Build it and they will come” (right out of the Field of Dreams movie).
To this day, this job means more to me than just running a business. I get to meet people that life has thrown curveballs at, people who need encouragement and a reminder that they are not alone. Whether someone is downsizing, going through a divorce, dealing with a loss, or just needs temporary space during a transition, I understand that storage isn’t just about stuff. It’s about helping people through life’s changes.
This place was built on hard work, sacrifice, and the support of my family and community. I’m proud of what we’ve created here, not just because it’s a successful business, but because of the relationships I’ve built and the people I’ve been able to help along the way.
